White House: US to continue pressure on OPEC+ to cut price

WASHINGTON, Nov 24 (PRIME) -- The U.S. will continue its pressure on OPEC+ in order to reduce the oil prices, the presidential administration said in a statement Wednesday.

"We are communicating directly with them.  I’m not going to speak for them.  They — as you know, they have a meeting next week,” Spokeswoman Jen Psaki said.

“And we have been in close contact with them for months now conveying and advocating for an increase in supply –- a release of supply to meet the demand.  But also, we have been very clear that we would take actions, if needed, as well."

The official added that new sales of oil were not ruled out, but, according to Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm, this was only a short-term strategy, while transition to clean energy was long-term.

On Tuesday, the U.S. announced the sale of 50 million barrels of oil from the strategic reserve in order to push down prices. China, Japan, India, South Korea and the U.K. announced coordinated sales as well. Oil prices resisted the pressure.
